The Kalypto dressing kits only have one component—so it can be called an all-in-one dressing (with the exception of the forefoot dressing which has three components). It is similar to a big bandaid and applies in an equally easy fashion. There is no necessity for packing the wound with gauze or foam. The “bandaid” has a super-absorbent dressing attached which soaks up the wound exudate. This dressing the unusual benefit of a silver wound contact layer. The silver acts as a bacteriostat. There are little “windows” on the top of the bandage that can be checked so you know when the dressing is full. The bandage is designed to be replaced at least every three days, but sooner if the bandage becomes full. This bandage comes with a very effective gel seal around the perimeter of the bandage.
We really like this dressing when a wound care nurse is not available, and when the wound does not have heavy exudates. Also, with this dressing you do not have to deal with a canister, nor is it necessary to trim the dressing to the size of the wound—this dressing is designed to prevent maceration of the healthy skin.
